Job Description:

We have petabytes of data on what users do. We need you to tell us why.

As the Consumer Research & Insights lead, you'll run the function that connects user behavior, attitudes, and needs to product + business strategy. You'll combine quant, qual, and big data to answer the billion-dollar questions: Who are our users? Why do they churn? What should we build next? How big is this market?

This is not a dashboard job. This is a change the roadmap job.

What You'll Do

1. Foundational Research – Understand the User

  • Own segmentation, personas, and user journey mapping using surveys + behavioral data
  • Run U&A studies, diary studies, and ethnographic research to uncover unmet needs
  • Build mental models and frameworks the whole company uses to talk about users

2. Product Research – Ship Better Products

  • Partner with PM/Design to run concept tests, usability studies, pricing research, and feature prioritization
  • Design and analyze experiments: surveys, maxdiff, conjoint, fake-door tests
  • Triangulate: combine your research with product logs, DS analyses, and market data to tell one story

3. Strategic Research – Guide the Business

  • Market sizing, TAM/SAM/SOM, competitive landscaping, and trend forecasting
  • Brand health, NPS/CSAT, and reputation tracking with clear actions
  • Answer exec questions: Should we enter market X? Why is growth slowing? What will users want in 3 years?

4. Insights to Influence

  • Synthesize complex data into simple, compelling narratives. 1 slide > 50 page deck
  • Present to C-level and drive decisions. Your work changes what we build and how we go-to-market
  • Democratize insights: build self-serve tools, templates, and research repositories

5. Build the Function

  • Lead: Hire and grow a team of quant + qual researchers. Set bar for research rigor
  • Senior IC: Be the go-to expert. Mentor PMs/Designers on how to do good research
  • Vendor management: Own relationships with agencies for fieldwork, panels, tools

What You'll Bring

Must-haves:

  • 5-10+ YOE in consumer insights, market research, UX research, or strategy consulting with heavy research focus
  • Mixed methods expert: You can run an in-depth interview AND write SQL AND model a conjoint in R/Python
  • Quant chops: Survey design, sampling, weighting, regression, cluster/segmentation, causal inference basics
  • Qual chops: Interview moderation, ethnography, thematic analysis. You get past what users say to what they mean
  • Business fluency: Tied research to revenue, retention, or cost decisions. You know how companies make money
  • Storytelling: Can present to skeptical execs and get them to change their mind with data
  • SQL + 1 of R/Python/SPSS. You don't need a data engineer to get answers

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in consumer tech, social, e-commerce, fintech, or gaming at scale
  • Behavioral data experience: worked with product logs, clickstream, or joined survey + big data
  • Experience scaling a research function from 01 or in high-growth environments
  • Advanced degree in Psych, Sociology, Econ, Marketing, Stats, or HCI
  • Experience in SEA/APAC markets and cross-cultural research
